Born on August 31, 1930, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, she was the daughter of don Alfonso de Zayas y Bobadilla, Marques de Zayas, and his first wife Marie Gabrielle *Juliette* Vierne d'Harcourt. Thyra's family was steeped in nobility, with her maternal grandfather being Count Eugène d'Harcourt and her maternal uncle being Count Bruno d'Harcourt, who married Princess Isabelle d'Orléans. Thyra married François, 11th Duc d'Harcourt, on January 17, 1961, in a union that was marked by their shared noble heritage. The couple, who were third cousins, did not have children.
